This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 15, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued on the north side of the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through September 15.

WHITE-WINGED DOVES were in Torrance on September 8 and at Lemon Grove Recreational Center in Hollywood on September 11.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek continued through September 15.  It has also been at the salt pan, both locations upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.

At least one RED KNOT continued at the Ballona Salt Pan (Ballona Creek upstream from Pacific Ave.) through September 11.

Three COMMON TERNS were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB )letter of permission required) on September 8 and one was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from September 12-14.  Also at Bonelli was a BLACK TERN on September 12.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) on September 8.

A SULPHUR-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and a TROPICAL KINGBIRD were at Golden Shore in Long Beach on September 10.  Neither was reported again.

An EASTERN KINGBIRD was on San Clemente Island on September 8.

The EASTERN KINGBIRD in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys was seen through September 13 near the southeast corner of the wildlife lake. September 7.  Google Maps 34.1734, -118.471

Eight PURPLE MARTINS were seen in Rancho Palos Verdes on September 11, one was at Wheeler Park in Claremont on September 7 and another was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on September 11.

Two RED CROSSBILLS were at Pearblossom Park in the Antelope Valley on September 7.

A LARK BUNTING was in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys on September 10.  It was at the confluence of Haskell Creek and the Los Angeles River.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was in the Lower Arroyo in Pasadena (south end of the concrete channel and north of the 134 Freeway) from September 12-13.  Others were near Jackson Lake in the east San Gabriel Mountains on September 13 and at Willow Springs Park in Long Beach on September 15.  Google Maps 33.8085, -118.1778

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were in the Arroyo Seco north of JPL in Pasadena on September 10, at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on September 14 and at San Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on September 14.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was in Beverly Hills on September 6 and one was on San Clemente Island on September 8.

A VIRGINIA’S WARBLER was at Creek Park in La Mirada on September 15 north of Imperial Highway along the edge of the creek.

A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was on San Clemente Island on September 7.

A CANADA WARBLER was at a residence in Palos Verdes on September 9.

 

SUMMER TANAGERS were in Griffith Park in the Old Zoo area from September 10-12, at Del Sol Park in Palos Verdes Estates on September 11, and at Brookside Park in Pasadena (by the baseball fields and play area) on September 13.
