This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 22, 2023.
The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued on the north side of the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through September 21.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was on the middle breakwater of Los Angeles Harbor from September 16-19.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek in Playa del Rey continued through September 17. It has also been at the salt pan, both locations just upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.
COMMON TERNS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from September 15-18 and at Malibu Lagoon from September 15-17.
A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at the San Pedro Fishing Pier in Cabrillo Beach on September 16.
A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach at Willow Street on September 19.
The EASTERN KINGBIRD continued in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys through September 19 near the southeast corner of the wildlife lake.
A PURPLE MARTIN was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on September 16.
A LARK BUNTING was along lower Ballona Creek north of the Lincoln Blvd. crossing on September 16.
A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at El Dorado Park Nature Center area on September 15. Others were at Golden Shore in Long Beach on September 17 and along the San Gabriel River in South El Monte between Peck Road and the Whittier Narrows Dam on September 17
A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach through September 17 as did one at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through September 19.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach from September 19-21 by the northeast corner of the lagoon. Another was in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island on September 21.
A LUCY’S WARBLER was at Creek Park in La Mirada from September 16-19.
A VIRGINIA’S WARBLER was at Creek Park in La Mirada through September 17 north of Imperial Highway along the edge of the creek. Another was in Signal Hill at Hilltop Park- North Side Trails from September 21-22.
An AMERICAN REDSTART was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB from September 15-19 by Parking 1. A letter of permission is required for entry.
Other AMERICAN REDSTARTS were at Lunada Bay on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on September 16, at CSU Long Beach on September 17 and at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on September 18.
A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was at Jackson Lake in the east San Gabriel Mountains on September 17.
A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was in Chavez Ravine in Elysian Park from September 18-19. It was north of Academy Road and just west of Stadium Way by the circular turnaround in the parking area.
A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was in Signal Hill at Hilltop Park- North Side Trails from September 17-18 and a MAGNOLIA WARBLER was there on September 21.
A SUMMER TANAGER was at Oxford Lagoon in Marina del Rey from September 19-21.
DICKCISSELS were southeast of the wildlife lake at the Sepluveda Basin Wildlife Area on September 18 and at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale on September 22 near the new lake by the dam (west of the main lake).
