TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE | White-winged Dove | Manx Shearwater | Yellow-crowned Night-Heron | Black Swift | Baird’s Sandpiper | Semipalmated Sandpiper | American Redstart


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for August 18, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through August 18.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at Malibu Lagoon on August 13.

A MANX SHEARWATER was above Redondo Canyon off Redondo Beach on August 17.

Ballona Lagoon in Playa del Rey continued to host at least one YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON through August 9.

At least one BLACK SWIFT continued to be reported near Claremont Wilderness Park along Cobal Canyon Road (by the bench) through August 11.  Late afternoon is the best time to look for them here.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER continued along the lower Los Angeles River just above Willow Street through August 18.  A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was also present here on August 18.

An AMERICAN REDSTART was in Sullivan Canyon north of Pacific Palisades on August 15.
