The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through August 4.
At least two BLACK SWIFTS continued to be reported near Claremont Wilderness Park along Cobal Canyon Road (by the bench) through July 29. Late afternoon is the best time to look for them here.
A MANX SHEARWATER was offshore south of San Pedro on July 31.
Eleven COOK’S PETRELS were observed at several locations in the vicinity of San Clemente Island on July 31.
A MASKED BOOBY was at Thirty Mile Bank east of San Clemente Island on July 29.
Quite unusual away from the coast was a REDDISH EGRET along the San Gabriel River near the Live Oak crossing in Irwindale on August 2.
Up to two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Ballona Lagoon through July 28
A MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was found along Blue Ridge Road west of Big Pines on July 28.
Quite unusual on the coastal slope was a VERDIN along Big Tujunga Wash east of Orcas Park on July 27.
An early HERMIT WARBLER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) on July 31.
A SUMMER TANAGER was along Bonsall Drive in Zuma Canyon on July 29.
A male and female INDIGO BUNTING continued along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach (on the east side below the Willow Street crossing), with one seen there through July 31.
