This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for March 31, 2023.
The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE at the Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant in the Antelope Valley was last reported on March 28. The bird has been in the open space immediately southwest of the reclamation plant ponds and entrance (along Ave. D).
The SANDHILL CRANE along the San Gabriel River in Pico Rivera continued through March 24 near Washington Blvd.
A few CALIFORNIA CONDORS continued to be reported through March 26 along the I-5 corridor near Gorman.
A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in Monrovia in the vicinity of Grand Ave. Park through March 29.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continued at Tournament Park in Pasadena through March 29.
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach was seen through March 28 below the Willow Street crossing (access is from DeForest Ave. on the east side of the river just above Willow Street). A PALM WARBLER continued in this area through March 28 by 20th Street.
A few BANK SWALLOWS were on the coastal slope with birds at Gorman Post Road on March 26, at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on March 26, and at Santa Fe Dam on March 26 and 30.
PURPLE MARTINS included one at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace and three along Gorman Post Road on March 25.
The PACIFIC WREN at La Mirada Community Park continued through March 30 in dense vegetation at the edge of the park near the blue and yellow water slide. This is in the northwest quadrant of the park.
A HARRIS’S SPARROW continued at a residence in Beverly Hills through March 30.
Four SWAMP SPARROWS continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through March 30 around the small north shore pond (this spot is near the extreme northeast corner of the reservoir). A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER continued in this area by the restroom at the north shore entrance through March 26.
Another SWAMP SPARROW was near the entrance at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates on March 28.
A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued through March 29 and a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued March 28 at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trial along the pathway south of Monte Verde Park in Lakewood.
An adult male ORCHARD ORIOLE continued at Behringer Park in La Mirada through March 27. It has been seen east of the east end of Alicante Road, in the area bordering the Coyote Creek channel.
A BALTIMORE ORIOLE continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through March 27. It was seen on the north side of the park between Picnic Area 1 and 2.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER continued through March 28 and a PAINTED REDSTART continued through March 26 along Hackett Ave. just south of Birdcage Park in Long Beach.
SUMMER TANAGERS were at the Whittier Narrows Nature Center in South El Monte through March 26 and in Santa Monica on March 26.
