This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for March 24, 2023.
A TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued at the Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant in the Antelope Valley through March 23. The bird has been in the open space immediately southwest of the reclamation plant ponds and entrance (along Ave. D).
A SURF SCOTER was at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook on March 20.
Two RED-NECKED GREBES were off Pt. Dume in Malibu on March 22.
An INCA DOVE was in Lake Los Angeles in the east Antelope Valley on March 18. It was seen at 41116 169th Street East.
Up to five YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at the Ballona Lagoon through March 20.
Two CALIFORNIA CONDORS were along Gorman Post Road on March 17
A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in Monrovia in the vicinity of Grand Ave. Park through March 17.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at Tournament Park in Pasadena from March 22-23.
A “PRAIRIE” MERLIN was in the west Antelope Valley on March 17.
A “BLACK” MERLIN was at Long Beach Recreation Park on March 19.
HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHERS were in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through March 18 and at William Andrew’s Clark Memorial Library through March 23.
Also in the west Antelope Valley on private property were two LAPLAND LONGSPURS and fifteen CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS.
A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (Sailboat cove area) through March 17.
A HARRIS’S SPARROW continued at a residence in Beverly Hills through March 21.
Four SWAMP SPARROWS continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through March 23 around the small north shore pond (this spot is near the extreme northeast corner of the reservoir). A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER continued in this area by the restroom at the north shore entrance through March 22.
A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE and a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued along the pathway at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trial south of Monte Verde Park in Lakewood through March 18 and 17 respectively.
An adult male ORCHARD ORIOLE was at Behringer Park in La Mirada from March 20-24. It was last seen east of the east end of Alicante Road, bordering the Coyote Creek channel.
A BALTIMORE ORIOLE continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through March 24. It was seen on the north side of the park between Picnic Area 1 and 2.
A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the far north end of the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through March 23.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER and a PAINTED REDSTART continued near Birdcage Park in Long Beach through March 23. Check for both birds at 3950 Hackett Ave.
The CAPE MAY WARBLER at Loyola Marymount University continued through March 18.
Another CAPE MAY WARBLER was at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Sylmar on March 19 near the southwest corner in eucalyptus trees just west of the closed restroom in the frisbee golf course area. A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continued in this area through March 18.
SUMMER TANAGERS continued this past week in Brentwood, on the north side of Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, at Long Beach Recreation Park, at USC (by Taper Hall) and near the Whittier Narrows Nature Center in South El Monte.
