This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for April 7, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE at the Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant in the Antelope Valley continued through April 4. 

The SANDHILL CRANE along the San Gabriel River in Pico Rivera continued through April 7 near Washington Blvd.

A FRANKLIN’S GULL was at the Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant on April 1 and two were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on April 6.

A BROWN BOOBY was offshore above the Santa Catalina Channel on April 2.

NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (up to three birds), at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh, along the Los Angeles River in Downey, at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale (up to five birds) and at the wildlife lake at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve (at least six birds) this past week.

Up to six CALIFORNIA CONDORS were seen along Gorman Post Road on April 1.  Another was near Sandberg on April 5.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in north Monrovia (often in the vicinity of Grand Ave. Park) through April 6. 

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach was seen through March 31 below the Willow Street crossing (access is from DeForest Ave. on the east side of the river just above Willow Street). 

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD in Griffith Park continued north of the Old Zoo area through April 1.  It tends to move widely around the area, often into the LA Zoo property.

A PURPLE MARTIN was at Bear Divide near Santa Clarita on April 1 and another was seen from Skyline Fire Road in the Whittier Hills also on April 1.

Four SWAMP SPARROWS continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through April 5 around the small north shore pond (this spot is near the extreme northeast corner of the reservoir). 

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued through April 2 at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trial along the pathway south of Monte Verde Park in Lakewood.

A BALTIMORE ORIOLE continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through April 5.  It was seen on the north side of the park between Picnic Area 1 and 2 and also by the large square parking lot to the west.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through April 1.

Another BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was in Bronson Canyon in Griffith Park on April 6 and one continued at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through April 7 along the fence east of the amphitheater.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER continued through April 5 along Hackett Ave. just south of Birdcage Park in Long Beach. 

A PALM WARBLER was in Long Beach near Seaside Park on April 6.
