This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for November 6.
A EURASIAN WIGEON was on the south lake at Legg Lake in South El Monte on November 5.
Two SURF SCOTERS were at Quail Lake on November 2.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER continued at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro through November 4.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek continued through November 1 in the vicinity of the UCLA boat ramp (upstream from Pacific Ave.).
Five MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were in the Antelope Valley from October 31-November 3. They are being seen at the A&G Sod Farms by the intersection of 50th Street East and Ave. N. Remember this is private property; bird from the roadside only.
An AMERICAN BITTERN continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through November 3. A letter of permission is required for entry.
An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON continued at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro through November 2. It has been around the salt marsh and in the general area.
Up to two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, an adult and a juvenile, continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through November 3. They are often seen near the “elbow” of the marsh, adjacent to the corner of Lincoln and Jefferson.
A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was at Banning Park in Wilmington on November 1.
ZONE-TAILED HAWKS were seen in Sierra Madre near Santa Anita Ave. and Grand Ave. on November 3 and at the LA County Arboretum on November 6.
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Entradero Park in Torrance through November 5, usually around the pond.
The GREATER PEWEE continued at Rustic Canyon in Pacific Palisades through October 30. It has been in the vicinity of 780 Latimer Road, but moves around the area and can be difficult to see.
An EASTERN PHOEBE returned for another winter to the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale as of November 4. It is in the same spot as last winter, on the north side of the Los Angeles River, just east of the Riverside Drive crossing.
CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were at Vina Vieja Park in Pasadena from October 30-November 3, in the weedy area behind the spillway at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale from November 3-4, at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace on November 4 between the baseball and soccer fields, around the dry pond at Entradero Park in Torrance on November 5 and at Domenic Massari Park in Palmdale on November 6.
DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCOS were around the lower parking lot by the athletic field at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena from October 25-November 1, at Pearblossom Park in the Antelope Valley on November 1 and around parking area 1 at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on November 1.
A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on November 5 by the upper parking area at Sailboat Cove.
Most interesting was an apparent DARK-EYED “RED-BACKED” JUNCO found at Domenic Massari Park in Palmdale on November 6.
A SWAMP SPARROW was at Castaic Lagoon on November 3. It was on the west side of the lagoon at the north edge of the main beach close to the shoreline.
A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through November 5. Another was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on November 4.
Two BOBOLINKS were in the weedy area behind the dam by the spillway at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale from November 3-4.
A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was in Agoura Hills on November 5 where Medea Creek crosses Fountainwood Street.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale on October 30 on the west side of the park, continuing at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through November 2, at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through November 3, in Banning Park in Wilmington through November 1, at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through November 5 and at Heartwell Park in Long Beach on November 3.
A PALM WARBLER was at Malibu Lagoon on October 31.
Another PALM WARBLER continued at Columbia Park in Torrance through November 4 on the north side of the community gardens.
The BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER continued by parking area 9 at the Piute Ponds through October 30.
A CANADA WARBLER has been present since late October and through November 3 at a residence in Sun Valley.
A SUMMER TANAGER continued on the west side of Wardlow Park in Long Beach through November 5.
A late LAZULI BUNTING was along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin below Burbank Blvd (by the Haskell Creek inflow) on November 4.
