This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for October 16.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek continued through October 15 generally near the UCLA boat ramp.
Another presumed PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was on the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin below Burbank Blvd on October 14.
The NEOTROPIC CORMORANT at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas continued through October 15, usually near the northeast end of the lake early, then along the north shore.
Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through October 12.
A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on October 10. Another was at Wheeler Park in Claremont on October 12.
A ZONE-TAILED HAWK flew over Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale on October 10.
A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued around the pond at Entradero Park in Torrance through October 15.
Another TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City through October 11 along the golf course fence line by the eastern border of the park.
The GREATER PEWEE continued at Rustic Canyon in Pacific Palisades through October 14. It has been in the vicinity of 780 Latimer Road, but moves around the area and is more often heard than seen. A PALM WARBLER was at this locale on October 12 near the end of Latimer.
A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach on October 13 with the sparrow flock on the golf course.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Encanto Park in Duarte on October 10.
GREEN-TAILED TOWHEES were at Apollo Park near Lancaster from October 10-13, at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh from October 10-12, at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through October 14, at Descanso Gardens in La Canada on October 12 and continuing at O’Melveny Park in Granada Hills through October 11.
One or two BOBOLINKS continued in the grassy area by the spillway at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale through October 13.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at the north end of DeForest Park in Long Beach on October 10, at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach from October 12-13, at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on October 14 and continuing at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through October 15.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at a residence in Pacific Palisades on October 14.
An AMERICAN REDSTART was at Malibu Bluffs Park on October 9.
Another AMERICAN REDSTART was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on October 15 near the northeast shore in the dried pond area and closed wooden dock near the large square parking lot onn October 15.
A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera from October 10-11 at the east side of the basins where Mines Ave. would be if it were a through street. An INDIGO BUNTING was also present here on October 10.
Another CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on October 11. A letter of permission is required for entry.
Yet another CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was seen briefly at Maywood Riverfront Park in Maywood on October 15.
A male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on October 12.
A SUMMER TANAGER was at Wardlow Park in Long Beach from October 10-12 near the southwest corner.
