This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for May 20.
Two INCA DOVES were in Lake Los Angeles in the east Antelope Valley on May 13. They were seen near 41116 169th Street East.
Three BLACK SWIFTS were above the Devil’s Canyon trailhead near Chilao Flat on May 14.
Nine BLACK SWIFTS were at Bear Divide near Santa Clarita on May 16 and two were there on May 17. A PURPLE MARTIN was there on May 17.
A MEXICAN WHIP-POOR-WILL was along the Angeles Crest Highway by mile marker 55.1 on May 13. Please listen for this bird only. Do not play recordings.
A second cycle SLATY-BACKED GULL was at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles from May 19-20.
A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve through May 14. Three more were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through May 20 and one was along the Los Angeles River below Willow Street in Long Beach from May 17-20.
A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at Salinas de San Pedro at Cabrillo Beach on May 15.
Two more YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the north and south ends of Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey from May 16-18.
Lingering on Santa Catalina Island through May 14 was a LEWIS’S WOODPECKER near Haypress Reservoir. A COMMON GROUND DOVE was in the same area also on May 14.
A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at El Dorado Park in Long Beach on May 19 and 20. It was in Area 3 west of the pond and last seen by the west parking lot.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Buckhorn Campground in the San Gabriel Mountains on May 16 and at Wardlow Park in Long Beach also on May 16.
A male HOODED WARBLER was along the Playa Vista Riparian Corridor from May 19-20. It is adjacent to the soccer fields and dog park and quite vocal.
A SUMMER TANAGER was along lower Little Rock Creek on the north slope of the San Gabriel Mountains on May 13. Another was on San Clemente Island on May 18.
