This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 31.

 

MOUNTAIN PLOVERS continued in the Antelope Valley through December 30 at the A&G Sod Farm. The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N. This is private property.  Please bird from the road only.

 

A LAUGHING GULL was at the Rio Hondo Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera from December 27-30.  Entry to this part of the spreading basins is via a gate on Washington Blvd. near Paramount Blvd.

 

The LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 24.  It has been seen near Sailboat Cove and from the north shore.

 

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in the general vicinity of Grand Ave. Park in Monrovia on December 27.

 

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through December 28.

 

A juvenile YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach on December 26.

 

NORTHERN “YELLOW-SHAFTED” FLICKERS were at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach on December 26, at the South Coast Botanic Garden on December 28 and in Pasadena on December 28.

 

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Entradero Park in Torrance through December 27.

 

A PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER was at El Nido Park in Redondo Beach on December 26.

 

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through December 28. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern part of the park down into the river channel. 

 

The AMERICAN PIPIT (japonicus subspecies) continued at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale through December 28.

 

A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (Sailboat Cove area) through December 28.

 

A HARRIS’S SPARROW continued at a residence in Monrovia through December 27.

 

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail (just south of Monte Verde Park) in Lakewood through December 28.  An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at Monte Verde Park through December 28.

 

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through December 28, and one was at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through December 26.

 

An AMERICAN RESTART was in Area 2 of El Dorado Park (west of Horseshoe Lake from December 24-27.  Another continued Below Burbank Blvd. along Haskell Creek in the Sepulveda Basin through December 26.

 

A BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER continued at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino through December 28.  It has been hanging around the southwest corner of the main parking lot just to the north and west of the pedestrian main entrance, favoring Tipu trees.  A LUCY’S WARBLER was in the same area also through December 28.

 

The PAINTED REDSTART at Inglewood Park Cemetery continued through December 26. It stays in the lone large oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

 

A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK  was in Rolling Hills on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on December 26.

 

There was a late report of a PAINTED BUNTING on San Clemente Island on December 22.
