This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for June 2, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE in the Antelope Valley continued at Apollo Park through June 2.

A LESSER SCAUP was along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach at Willow Street on May 26. 

A Hooded Merganser was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on June 2.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was in Chatsworth on May 31.  Another was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for entry) on June 2.

Five VAUX’S SWIFTS were over Dodger Stadium on May 31.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at the Piute Ponds on May 27.

A COMMON LOON was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on May 27 and a BANK SWALLOW was there on June 1.

Up to four YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey through May 26.

Another YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach on May 27.

A PURPLE MARTIN was at the Piute Ponds on May 31.

Late HERMIT THRUSHES were at Bob’s Gap near Valyermo on May 28 and at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates on June 2.

A SUMMER TANAGER was on San Clemente Island on May 24.  Another was below Willow Street along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach on June 2.

Two ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS were in Area 2 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through May 27 along the fence behind the archery targets.  Another was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on May 28.

An INDIGO BUNTING continued on San Clemente Island (no public access) through May 31.
