This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for 25 November 2022.
A TUNDRA SWAN was along the San Gabriel River in Montebello between Slauson Ave. and Telegraph Road from November 23-25.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was seen through November 20 near the UCLA boat ramp (upstream from Pacific Ave.). The bird does move a fair distance up and down the creek however.
A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was at Zuma Creek mouth in Malibu on November 22.
A first cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles through November 24.
A PACIFIC LOON was at Lake Palmdale (no public access) on November 20.
NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS included two at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on November 19 and four along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin through November 22.
Up to five YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey through November 23.
A CALIFORNIA CONDOR was at Pyramid Lake on November 19.
The ZONE-TAILED HAWK in Monrovia was reported through November 21 in the vicinity of Greystone and Encinitas.
NORTHERN “YELLOW-SHAFTED” FLICKERS were along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach (by the Willow Street crossing) on November 19 and at Ladera Park on November 25.
A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at Legg Lake in South El Monte on November 28. Another continued at the golf course at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through November 19 and one was along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach (below the Willow Street crossing) on November 22.
A late WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE was at the north end of Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park on November 21.
A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at St. Andrew’s Abbey in Valyermo on November 21 west of the parking area.
The SEDGE WREN continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through November 22 just east of Duckbill Lake. Note that a letter of permission is required to enter this area.
The AMERICAN PIPIT of the Asian subspecies japonicus continued at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale through November 23.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR continued in Griffith Park at the Toyon Landfill (NOTE weekend access only) through November 20.
A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was at Bonelli Regional Park on November 23
Ten WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were reported this past week, with six of those at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.
Two SWAMP SPARROWS continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 24 by the small north shore pond near the east end of the lake.
Another SWAMP SPARROW continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through November 22 (northeast side of Big Piute Pond) and one was near the southwest corner of Quail Lake near Gorman on November 22.
A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was at West Los Angeles College on November 20.
A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was in the north park of Ladera Park by Ladera Heights from November 19-25.
An adult male BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at Elysian Park on November 19 in a flowering eucalyptus just north of the intersection of Stadium Way and Academy Road.
A SCOTT’S ORIOLE was at Crystalaire in Llano on November 22.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS continued at Bonelli Regional Park through November 21 (two birds along the north shore area). Another was at El Dorado Park in Long Beach (southwest corner of the first lake) on November 20
A NASHVILLE WARBLER was at Pelona Vista Park in Palmdale on November 20.
A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER continued along Appian way at Alamitos Bay in pepper trees below 2nd Street through November 18.
A PALM WARBLER was along the east side of San Gabriel River north of Rosecrans in Bellflower on November 23.
A CANADA WARBLER was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City from November 20-23. This bird has since been predated. Nearby a TENNESSEE WARBLER and a NORTHERN PARULA were in trees southwest of the playground area on the west side of the lake from November 21-24.
A PAINTED REDSTART continued in Brentwood (by 1021 Wellesley Ave.) through November 21.
SUMMER TANAGERS were at Elysian Park through November 19, at Bonelli Regional Park from November 19-21 (with two present on the latter date), at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach from November 17-23 (by the botanic garden), by the Rose Garden at Descanso Gardens in La Canada on November 21, on San Clemente Island on November 21 and in Culver City on November 22. Two more were on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on November 22 and 23.
A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was at Bonelli Regional Park on November 19 by the picnic area.
