This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for March 22.
INCA DOVES continue at Lake Los Angeles in the east Antelope Valley. One to two birds were seen at 170th Street E. and and Ave. N4 from March 18-21.
AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS continued at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro through March 22 when two were present, through March 13 at Malibu Lagoon, at Topanga State Beach on March 20 and at Pt. Dume in Malibu on March 21.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek (upstream from Pacific Ave, often near the UCLA boat ramp) continued through March 21.
Up to three NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued at the lake at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale through March 23. Others were reported at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City from March 14-15, at Peck Road Park in Arcadia on March 15 and at Castiac Lagoon on March 19 near the Aquatic Center.
A "PRAIRIE" MERLIN was at Entradero Park in Torrance on March 15 and a TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued around the pond there through March 19.
The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD at Horsethief Park in San Dimas continued through March 22. It had been frequenting the abandoned area below the west border of the park, just above Foothill Blvd. However it has recently been seen around the ravine west of the dog park.
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was near LAX on March 22. It was on La Tijera north of Westchester along the north side of the airport (east of Fire Station 5).
At the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale, the EASTERN PHOEBE continued through March 14. It has been both in the river channel and adjacent park, just below the Riverside bridge.
Other EASTERN PHOBES were found at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena on March 21 (southeast of the frisbee golf course) and at Hollenbeck Park east of Downtown LA on March 22.
The BLUE-HEADED VIREO at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City continued through March 16, as did a CASSIN’S VIREO through March 14. Both have been in the willows northeast of the lake.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through March 15 as did a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER through March 22.
A HARRIS’S SPARROW continued at a residence on the Palos Verdes Peninsula through March 17 on which date a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was also seen.
A DARK-EYED "PINK-SIDED" JUNCO was at the Village Green Condominiums on March 17. It was found behind until 5167 1/2 on the northeast side. This is private property but birders are welcome. Please be thoughtful of the residents.
An adult male ORCHARD ORIOLE was at Titula School in Redondo Beach on March 20. It was seen outside the north side fence.
The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through March 21. It is near the middle of the property, favoring an oak well south of the pond.
A SUMMER TANAGER continued at Wardlow Park in Long Beach through March 17 south of the main building.
Another SUMMER TANAGER was near the north shore of the lake at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on March 16. It was around the last parking lot before the park exit.
