A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at the LAX Dunes adjacent to Playa del Rey Beach on February 18.
Single AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS continued at Malibu Lagoon through February 26 and at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro through February 27. One was also at Paddleboard Cove on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on February 22.
The MASKED BOOBY continued on and around the breakwater at the Ballona Creek mouth through February 24. Parking is along Pacific Ave. in Playa del Rey on the south side of the channel. From the end of Pacific, continue over the Ballona Creek bridge and then walk out to the end of the middle jetty. Scope the breakwater from here.
The AMERICAN BITTERN continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through February 23. It has been often seen around the overflow pond near the southwest corner of the marsh.
Up to four YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the Alamitos Bay Marina Center from February 25-27.
The ZONE-TAILED HAWK in Monrovia was reported near Grand Park through February 23.
A “BLACK” MERLIN continued at the west end of Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale through February 20.
The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD at Horsethief Park in San Dimas has been seen almost daily through February 24. It has been frequenting the abandoned area below the west border of the park, just above Foothill Blvd. It does move around however and might be seen anywhere in the general area.
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD in Area 2 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach was seen through February 25. At that time it was south of the Long Beach PD Training Center.
TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued west of the Ranger Station at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City through February 23 and around the pond at Entradero Park in Torrance through February 27.
A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was south of the baseball fields at Valley Park in Burbank on February 22.
A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER continued in the northeast corner of Carr Park in Glendale through February 23 and yes another HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at Horsethief Canyon Park in San Dimas on February 23.
At the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale, the EASTERN PHOEBE continued through February 26. It has been both in the river channel and adjacent park, just below the Riverside bridge.
A PACIFIC WREN was at the LA County Arboretum in Arcadia through February 22. It has been near the waterfall which is west of the Queen Anne Cottage. Go past the waterfall to a flat cement bench on your left, just beyond this spot is a fallen log on your right. The bird has been in this area.
At Walnut Creek Park in San Dimas, about 500 yards east of the Scarborough parking area, a GRAY CATBIRD continued through February 27. It has been favoring clumps of Arundo near a concrete culvert. Closer to the parking area, a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued through February 27.
At least a few EVENING GROSBEAKS continue around Grassy Hollow Visitor’s Center along Highway 2 west of Big Pines, with reports through February 25.
The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued in the southwest part of Madrona Marsh in Torrance through February 27 while a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was in the willows near there through February 28. Also continuing at the preserve was a wintering ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER.
The DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO continued by the athletic field on the west side of Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena through February 27.
A PALM WARBLER continued at Santa Fe Dam through February 25 by the water play area near parking lot 5.
A SUMMER TANAGER continued in the southwest part of Wardlow Park in Long Beach through February 25. Also present was a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER from February 25-27.
