Rare Bird Alert - April 30, 2021


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for April 30.

Up to four late BRANT were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) from April 23-28.

A late GREATER SCAUP was along the Lower Los Angeles River south of Anaheim Street from April 25-27.

Two SPOTTED DOVES continued in Compton through April 24.  They were last reported on wires and in parking lot behind Mt. Rose Baptist Church.

One or two INCA DOVES continued in Lake Los Angeles through April 29.  Check the west side of 169th Street East, halfway between N-4 and Mossdale.

A COMMON GROUND DOVE continued in Cerritos on the south side of the Volutone parking lot through April 23.

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles through April 27.

Up to seven NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through April 29.  They are generally seen on the buoys near the north short of the lake.  

Another NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale through April 28.

Up to four YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were seen at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach through April 29.

The ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued at Grand Avenue Park in Monrovia through April 25.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was along the Ballona Creek bike path upstream from Centinela on April 24.

A very rare migrant GRAY VIREO was netted and banded at Bear Divide in the west San Gabriel Mountains on April 29.

PURPLE MARTINS were recorded in well above average numbers this week with about twenty birds observed in the county.

A BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was at Three Sisters Reserve in Rancho Palos Verdes on April 29.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Victory Park in Pasadena through April 27.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were in Porter Ranch on April 20, continuing in Rolling Hills through April 23 and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on April 25.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through April 27.

A NORTHERN PARULA was singing in Benedict Canyon (south of Liebe Drive) on April 25

The PALM WARBLER at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood continued through April 24.

A SUMMER TANAGER continued at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles through April 26 at the west end of the large lawn area.  

Another SUMMER TANAGER was at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley on April 29.
