This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 4.

Six TRUMPETER SWANS were at the Piute Ponds on December 3. They were last seen flying west.

Four TUNDRA SWANS were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on November 29. Another distressed TUNDRA SWAN was collected for rehab in Santa Monica on December 3 and four TUNRDA SWANS were at Malibu Lagoon on December 3.

Along the Los Angeles River in Long Beach between the Willow Street and Anaheim crossings, the female LONG-TAILED DUCK continued through December 4. A female WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was also here on December 4.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER along lower Ballona Creek was seen through December 3. Park at the end of Pacific Ave in Playa del Rey and head north over the bridge to the far side of the channel. Walk upstream and watch for the bird at or near the UCLA boat ramp.

At least a few MOUNTAIN PLOVERS continued in the Antelope Valley at the A&G Sod Farm at Avenue N and 50th Street East on November 29. Most of the land in this area is private property; bird from the roadside only.

A first cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on November 30.

An AMERICAN BITTERN continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through November 30. A letter of permission is required for entry.

The immature LITTLE BLUE HERON at the Cabrillo Salt Marsh in San Pedro was present through November 29.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through November 27. One of these birds or a different one was on the breakwater beyond the Ballona Creek mouth through December 2.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continued at the South Coast Botanic Garden by the dried pond south of the Arizona Crossing through November 29.

A "BLACK" MERLIN (subspecies suckleyi) continued at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale through December 1.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued at Entradero Park in Torrance through December 2 (around the pond) and at Ken Malloy Harbor Park in Harbor City (in tall trees west side of the lake between the two main parking lots) through December 3.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was between the Whitter Narrows Nature Center and the San Gabriel River in South El Monte on November 29.

A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was at Central Park on Waterfront Drive in Westchester on November 30.

PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS were at the Rio Hondo Basin on November 29, at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena on December 1, at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds on December 1, in Atwater Village along the Los Angeles River on December 2 and at Pan American Park in Lakewood through December 4

A HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER was at the Quigley Canyon Open space in Santa Clarita on November 30.

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale was reported through December 2. It is being seen on the north side of the Los Angeles River, usually just east of the Riverside Drive crossing. It may be seen in the park area proper or between there and the island east of Riverside. A SWAMP SPARROW was in the riverbed here east of Riverside and near the 134 Freeway crossing from December 1-4.

Another EASTERN PHOEBE was found at the Rolling Hills landfill loop by the northeast side of the equestrian center on December 2.

CASSIN'S VIREOS were at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on November 29 and around Parking Lot 6 t Santa Fe Dam on December 2.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD and a PALM WARBLER were on San Clemente Island on November 29.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at the northwest section of Apollo Park near Lancaster through November 27. Others were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 29, while two continued at Griffith Manor Park in Glendale through December 3.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Orcutt Rand Horticultural Center Park in West Hills on December 2 (northwest of the orange grove by the community garden).

A DARK-EYED "GRAY-HEADED" JUNCO continued along the north shore of the lake at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 2. Another was in San Dimas Canyon on November 28 and one was in Area 2 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach on November 29. Yet another continued at College Park in Claremont through December 2.

Up to two GREEN-TAILED TOWHEES continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through December 3. A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued here through November 28 as did a PALM WARBLER (near Carson Street) through December 1. A new find was a female AMERICAN REDSTART in the southern part of the park on November 29.

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS continued at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through December 1 and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through December 3,

A LUCY'S WARBLER was in Highland Park on November 27 and another continued at the Rio Hondo Spreading Grounds in a weedy patch just west of the entrance at Mines and Passons through November 27.

A PALM WARBLER continued at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through November 28. It has been seen around the large south basin.

A SUMMER TANAGER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through December 1.

A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was in Pasadena on November 29 and a BLUE GROSBEAK was along the Los Angeles River between the Anaheim Street and Pacific Coast Highway crossings on December 1.
