This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for October 22.

Two SURF SCOTERS were at Quail Lake near Gorman on October 20.

An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER continued on the middle breakwater at the Los Angeles Harbor (accessible only by boat) through October 19.
A RUFF was along the lower Los Angeles River at WIllow Street from October 19-20.

Up to two STILT SANDPIPERS continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) through October 20.
A HEERMANN'S GULL was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on October 14.

A MANX SHEARWATER continued over Redondo Canyon off Redondo Beach through October 17.

An immature RED-FOOTED BOOBY continued off San Pedro through October 16.  It has been lingering on the "Native Son" fishing boat as it goes to and from the Los Angeles Harbor.  The boat docks in the West Channel.

The LITTLE BLUE HERON along the lower Los Angeles River continued through October 21 between Willow Street and Del Amo.  It has also been seen at Golden Shore Marine Reserve near the river mouth.

YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were on the middle breakwater in the Los Angeles Harbor (reachable only by boat) through October 17 and at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through October 20.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was over Altadena on October 15 and another was in Diamond Bar on October 19.


A TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued at Entradero Park in Torrance through October 16 and in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through October 21.

The DUSKY WARBLER in the Sepulveda Basin along Woodley Creek in Van Nuys through October 19.  It has ranged up and down the creek in the area north of the model airplane field.  Access can be had through a break in the fence that runs parallel to the creek's east side.  A BOBOLINK was reported here through

October 17 and a PAINTED BUNTING was in the same area from October 17-18.  A SWAMP SPARROW was found here on October 20.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was in the east Antelope Valley from October 17-20 on the south side of Ave.  L, west of 50th Street East.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach from October 17-19 on the golf course.  A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was here on October 19.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale from October 19-21.  It was seen on both the east and west side of Victory.

A DARK-EYED "GRAY-HEADED" JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (northeast shore of the lake under the oaks) through October 19.  Another was at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena (by the sports field and parking lot) on October 17.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS included one at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh and two at Solstice Canyon Park near Malibu on October 19.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE and a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through October 15.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was on San Clemente Island on October 13.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on October 14 and one continuedat Madrona Marsh in Torrance through October 21.

Another BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach from October 9-17 on the east side of the park east of the old restrooms.

A MAGNOLIA WARBLER continued at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale (in oaks opposite 1621 Rancho Ave.) through October 22.  Another MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia from October 14-15 on the west side of the channel between the two lakes and one was at Ralph Dills Park in Paramount on October 14.  

A BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER was at City of Hope (private area) in Duarte on October 20.

A PALM WARBLER was in the Sepulveda Basin on October 14 and one was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia (north of the parking area) on October 21.

Another PALM WARBLER was at DeForest Park in Long Beach (south of the park admin. buildings) on October 19.

A PINE WARBLER was at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island on October 17.

The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through October 20.  It stays in the lone oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

A SUMMER TANAGER continued at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on October 17 (at the west end of the central lawn area).  

Another SUMMER TANAGER was on the north side of Wardlow Park in Long Beach on October 19.

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was in Pasadena on October 15.

An INDIGO BUNTING was in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys on October 18.
