This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for April 1.

A SURF SCOTER was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on March 29.

 

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was off Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo on March 27.

 

The SOLITARY SANDPIPER in the Sepulveda Basin continued through March 31 along the Los Angeles River below Burbank Blvd.

 

A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro on March 27.

 

Fifteen SABINE’S GULLS were at Quail Lake on March 28.

 

Up to two NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through March 31.  They have been seen near the north shore and at Sailboat Cove.

 

Another NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was at Santa Fe Dam on March 27.

 

An AMERICAN BITTERN continued at Bonelli Regional Park at the small marshy pond near the northeast corner of the lake (east of the old wooden pier) through March 31.

 

Up to four YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Alamitos Bay through March 26 near the south end of Appian Way on Naples Island.

 

Another YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at the Ballona Ecological Reserve near Playa del Rey on March 26.

 

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in Monrovia (vicinity of Grand Ave. Park and Sawpit Wash and this general area) through March 31. 

 

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through March 26.

 

The BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates was seen through April 1 in Coral Trees north of the Rose Garden.

 

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach continued through March 26.

 

A BANK SWALLOW was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on March 31.

 

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were at Willow Springs Park in Long Beach through March 29 and in Claremont through March 30.

 

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at DeForest Park in Long Beach on March 25.

 

Another BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through March 26.  It has been in the area around Monte Verde Park and south of there.  A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was in this area also through March 26.

 

A CAPE MAY WARBLER was found at Loyola Marymount University in Westchester on March 19 and seen through March 29.  There is no access to the general public, but you may enter the campus if you have a ticket for a campus event.  Google Earth coordinates for this bird are 33.9685445, -118.4176337.  The bird has been favoring a fig tree here.

 

The adult male SUMMER TANAGER at Wardlow Park in Long Beach was seen through March 25.

 

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at a residence in La Crescenta on March 27.
