This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for February 25.
Up to five NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through February 24 in the Sailboat Cove area.
Two more NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were at the lake at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale on February 21.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through February 23. It has been between Lincoln and the 90 Freeway and ranges downstream to the UCLA boat ramp.
Two RED KNOTS were at Dockweiler State Beach on February 24, one near Imperial Highway and another by Lifeguard Station 49.
A SOLITARY SANDPIPER continued along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin (below Burbank Blvd.) through February 24.
A second cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was along the Los Angeles River between Atlantic and Slauson through February 24. Easiest access is from Maywood Riverfront Park.
At least one ZONE-TAILED HAWK\ continued in Monrovia (vicinity of Grand Ave. Park and Sawpit Wash) through February 24. Another was over Pasadena on February 20.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through February 19.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continued at Veteran’s Park in Sylmar through February 24. It is most often in the southwest area of the park in the eucalyptus stand near the restroom, but it does move around the park.
Another YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was in Juniper Hills on February 20.
A DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER was by Lake Balboa in the San Fernando Valley through February 24. It is being seen in the north-south line of trees east of the lake and adjacent to the boat and bike rentals.
The BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER continued at the South Coast Botanic Garden through February 20. It has been seen by the Arizona Crossing, but it moves around this area. The most recent report places it near the north end of Palos Verdes Drive North (just south of the botanic garden).
A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through February 19. It is usually around the pond. A HOODED ORIOLE was in this area also on February 19.
A LEAST FLYCATCHER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through February 21 near the north end below Del Amo Blvd.
The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through February 25. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern part of the park down into the river channel.
The japonicus AMERICAN PIPIT at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale continued through February 21.
A SWAMP SPARROW was east of Parking 9 at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required) on February 19.
A DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO continued near the north shore play area at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through February 24. Two were at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena through February 21 (usually around the sports field adjacent to the lower parking area on the west side). Another was reported at Blaisdell Ranch Preserve in Claremont on February 19.
A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through February 24 in the Sailboat Cove area.
At the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was present through February 21 (south of Monte Verde Park) as was a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER near electrical tower 35 and 36. A CASSIN’S VIREO continued near the south end of Monte Verde Park through February 20.
Another GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was at a residence in Rancho Palos Verdes on February 19.
A SCOTT’S ORIOLE continued at a residence in Crystalaire in Llano through February 23.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through February 24, at Bond Park in Atwater Village through February 20 and at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on February 20.
A LUCY’S WARBLER continued at Maywood Riverfront Park along the Los Angeles River through February 25, often in sycamores near the river bike path access gate and also along the east side of the park.
The immature male AMERICAN RESTART continued by the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin through February 24. It has been reliable by the bridge over Haskell Creek above its confluence with the LA River.
The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through February 24 in the Pinecrest section.
An adult male SUMMER TANAGER continued at Legg Lake in South El Monte through February 24. It has been east of Restroom 4 on the south side of the south lake.
Another SUMMER TANAGER was near Westwood on February 18.
A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK continued in the east Antelope Valley through February 23.
