BIRDS MENTIONED…

Pacific Golden-Plover | Ruff | Solitary Sandpiper | Tricolored Heron | Western Cattle Egret | YELLOW-HEADED CARACARA | American Dipper | TROPICAL PARULA


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for July 12, 2024.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the Ballona Salt Pan in Playa del Rey (above the Pacific Ave. bridge, visible from the south side of Ballona Creek) on July 9 and a RUFF was at this location from July 8-10.  Both have been searched for but not seen since.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was along the Los Angeles River below the Rosecrans crossing in Long Beach on July 11.

A TRICOLORED HERON was at Malibu Lagoon from July 11-12.

A WESTERN CATTLE EGRET was at the LA Harbor on July 7.

The continuing YELLOW-HEADED CARACARA in Lomita was reported through July 10.  It has been hanging around the Target parking lot at Narbonne Ave. and PCH.

AMERICAN DIPPERS continued along the Burkhart Trail near the Buckhorn Day Use Parking Area through July 5.

A TROPICAL PARULA was near the Switzer Picnic Area in the San Gabriel Mountains from July 4-11.  It has been by the first stream crossing about one quarter mile downstream from the parking area.
