This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for October 14.
Two AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were on the middle breakwater at the Los Angeles Harbor (accessible only by boat) from October 9-10 and one was at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro on October 12.
A STILT SANDPIPER continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) through October 9.
A MASKED BOOBY was on the middle breakwater at the Los Angeles Harbor (accessible only by boat) from October 9-10
A RED-FOOTED BOOBY was offshore at the Catalina Channel south of Long Beach on October 10.
A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT was observed flying over the Sepulveda Basin on October 10.
The LITTLE BLUE HERON along the lower Los Angeles River continued through October 10 between Willow Street and Del Amo.
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS included two at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh from October 8-11 and three at the Ballona Wetlands on October 9.
A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was over Monrovia on October 8 southeast of Grand Avenue Park.
TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were in the northwest part of Entradero Park in Torrance through October 13, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Long Beach on October 9 and below the Willow Street crossing of the Los Angeles River in Long Beach through October 10.
A PURPLE MARTIN was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on October 8.
A DUSKY WARBLER was in the Sepulveda Basin along Woodley Creek in Van Nuys from October 9-13. It has ranged up and down the creek in the area north of the model airplane field. Access can be had through a break in the fence that runs parallel to the creek's east side. A BOBOLINK was in this area on October 10.
CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were at the north end of Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on October 9 and at the southwest corner of the north cricket field in the Sepulveda Basin on October 9.
A "RED" FOX SPARROW was at Pearblossom Park in the Antelope Valley on October 14.
A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was at Piute Ponds on October 12 on the north side of Duckbill Lake.
A DARK-EYED "GRAY-HEADED" JUNCO was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (northeast shore of the lake under the oaks) from October 12-13.
A SWAMP SPARROW was at Lower Arroyo Park in Pasadena on October 12 below the Colorado Street bridge.
A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was in the Sepulveda Basin on October 9.
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach from October 9-10 near the water feature, continuing at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through October 12 and along the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through October 12.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was on San Clemente Island on October 8.
MAGNOLIA WARBLERS were at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale (near the middle of the west side of the park, west of Victory) from October 13-14 and at the "pocket park" on the south side of Los Feliz on the east side of the Los Angeles River in Atwater Village on October 14.
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS were at DeForest Park in Long Beach (near the exercise area) on October 9, at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on October 12 (in the north part of the park near Del Amo).
A BLACKPOLL WARBLER continued at the small park on the south side of Los Feliz Blvd. on the east side of the Los Angeles River through October 10. Other BLACKPOLL WARBLERS continued in Signal Hill, at Silver Lake Reservoir (south of the Recreation Center at the south end) from October 11-12 and at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach on October 13.
A PALM WARBLER continued at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through October 9 near Parking 1. Another PALM WARBLER was at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles on October 10.
A SUMMER TANAGER was at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on October 10 (at the northwest corner of the central lawn area).
