This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 24.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through September 23. It is usually by the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave bridge.
COMMON TERNS were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas from September 21-23 and at Apollo Park near Lancaster on September 21.
Single MANX SHEARWATERS were south of Pt. Vicente on September 18 and west of Redondo Beach on September 21.
A RED-FOOTED BOOBY was in San Pedro at the 22nd Street landing on September 24.
An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON has been along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach between Willow Street and 7th Street from September 18-24.
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on September 17 and at the nearby Ballona Creek mouth on September 21. Another continued at Sims Bio Pond through September 17 as did one at Golden Shore Marine Reserve in Long Beach through September 21.
TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on September 18, in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach (near the pond) on September 20 and at Birdcage Park in Long Beach on September 21.
A BELL'S VIREO was at Jackson Lake near Big Pines on September 22.
Three PURPLE MARTINS were at Silver Lake Reservoir on September 18 and one was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on September 19.
CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS included one in the Wilmington Drain in Harbor City on September 19, one near the southeast corner of Heartwell Park in Long Beach on September 21, two at Brookside Park in Pasadena (north of the parking area) on September 22 and one at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas (near the large north shore parking lot) on September 21.
A SWAMP SPARROW was at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia on September 23 on the west side of the north end of the channel separating the two lakes.
Up to three BOBOLINKS were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera from September 21-23 along the east side of the south basin. Another was at Piute Ponds (permission required for entry) on September 22 and two were at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia (in the weedy area at the far north end) on September 24.
An OVENBIRD was in Rancho Palos Verdes on September 15.
A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance from September 21-23 near the south end of the willow belt.
TENNESSEE WARBLERS were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds (along the east side of the south basin) in Pico Rivera from September 19-22, north of the park buildings at DeForest Park in Long Beach from September 19-21 and at Griffith Park in Claremont from September 20-21
A LUCY'S WARBLER continued in the meadow area on the east side of Silver Lake Reservoir through September 23. Look for this bird at the north end of the tree "island" that borders the west side fence.
A HOODED WARBLER was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on September 17 and a VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was there on September 20. Both were in reeds near the north shore entrance to the RV Park.
An AMERICAN REDSTART was at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach (near the restrooms) from September 21-23.
A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at DeForest Park in Long Beach from September 18-20 generally north of the park buildings.
BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were at Lunada Bay Elementary School in Rancho Palos Verdes from September 18-19.
A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Entradero Park in Torrance on September 18.
San Clemente Island had a continuing LAPLAND LONGSPUR from September 14-20, two PRAIRIE WARBLERS from September 15-20, a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER from September 19-20, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER on September 18 and a DICKCISSEL on September 19.
