This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 3.

Three WHITE-WINGED DOVES were at DeForest Park in Long Beach on August 29, one to two more continued along the lower Los Angeles River at the Willow Street crossing through September 2.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was along lower Ballona Creek from August 28-September 2.  It tends to be by the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave bridge.

The RED-NECKED STINT at Malibu Lagoon continued through August 29. 

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was at Piute Ponds on August 29 and a SABINE'S GULL continued there through September 3.

A COMMON TERN was along the lower Los Angeles River at Willow Street on August 29 and two were at Piute Ponds on August 27.

A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued along the lower Los Angeles River around the island just below Willow Street through August 31.

Two more NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued on the lake at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys through September 1.

Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the Cabrillo Salt Marsh (Salinas de San Pedro) through September 2, at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach (up to 3 birds) through September 30, at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through August 31 and at Alamitos Bay through September 1.

A NORTHERN HARRIER was at Ryan Park on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on August 29.

A PURPLE MARTIN was at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on August 28 and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was there on August 26.

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for access) from August 30-September 3.

LUCY'S WARBLERS were at Silver Lake Meadows and along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin near Burbank Blvd. on September 3.
