BIRDS MENTIONED…

TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE | Least Tern | Magnificent Frigatebird | Cattle Egret | Yellow-crowned Night-Heron | California Condor | Red-eyed Vireo


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for July 7, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued at Apollo Park near Lancaster through July 6.

A LEAST TERN continued in Area 3 at El Dorado Park in Long Beach through July 3.

A MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was at Belmont Shore in Long Beach on July 2 and a REDDISH EGRET flew by this location the same day.

A CATTLE EGRET was at the Hansen spreading grounds adjacent to Hansen Dam on July 1.

YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS included two at Ballona Lagoon in Playa del Rey through July 6, one at the entrance to Alamitos Bay on July 2 and up to three along the San Gabriel River between the Pacific Coast Highway and the river mouth jetties on July 4.

Three CALIFORNIA CONDORS were along the I-5 corridor near Pyramid Lake on July 3.

A RED-EYED VIREO was at Rio de Los Angeles Park from July 3-6.  The bird has usually been seen at the north end of the park near the restrooms and has been very vocal.  It could not be found on July 7.
