Rare Bird Alert - April 22, 2023

This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for April 22, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE at the Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant in the Antelope Valley continued through April 20 and was last seen at the nearby Piute Ponds on April 22.  A letter of permission is required for entry to the latter location.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was at the Ballona Creek mouth from April 19-21.

Two CATTLE EGRETS were at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys on April 16, and single birds were observed along Gorman Post Road southeast of Gorman on April 17 and 19.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued at the Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey through April 21.

A NORTHERN “YELLOW-SHAFTED” FLICKER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through April 21.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued along the lower Los Angeles River below Willow Street through April 21.

A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was at the Rolling Hills Landfill Loop on April 21.  It was along the Moccasin Trail just east of the east end of Roanwood Drive.

Three PURPLE MARTINS were seen near Gorman along Gorman Post Road on April 17.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continued at Long Beach Recreation Park through April 16 between the tennis courts and ballfield.

A HARRIS’S SPARROW continued at a residence in Beverly Hills through April 16. 

One to two SWAMP SPARROWS continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through April 21 around the small north shore pond (this spot is near the extreme northeast corner of the reservoir). 

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through April 21 by the north end of the park.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER continued through April 15 along Hackett Ave. just south of Birdcage Park in Long Beach.  Another TENNESSEE WARBLER was reported at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on April 19.

SUMMER TANAGERS included one continuing on the USC campus through April 18 and one at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles on April 18.
