This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for October 13, 2023. 

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued on the north side of the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through October 12.

WHITE-WINGED DOVES were at Willow Springs Park in Long Beach on October 6 and at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on October 8.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys from October 7-8.

A RED-BILLED TROPICBIRD was off Santa Catalina Island on October 7.

Ten CATTLE EGRETS were in San Pedro at Port of Los Angeles on October 11.

Three YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey on October 9.

A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was at Creek Park in La Mirada on October 11.

ZONE-TAILED HAWKS were in Monrovia on October 6 and in in the vicinity of Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena from October 8-9.

Two TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach through October 11 by the Willow Street crossing.  A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was here on October 6 and a WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen on October 7.

Other TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on October 7, at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach from October 8-9, continuing in Area 3 of El Dorado Park in Long Beach through October 8 and at Marina Vista Park in Long Beach on October 9.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale on October 9.  This bird was west of Parking lot 6 where the pathway dead ends at the water’s edge.

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were in Pasadena on October 7, in Rancho Palos Verdes on October 8 and continuing at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through October 11.

A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER continued at the Silver Lake Recreation Center on October 8.  A PALM WARBLER was here on October 6.  Google Earth 34.0923, -118.2655

A MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) along Ave. C on October 8.

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued at Bond Park (Los Feliz and the LA River) in Atwater Village through October 8.

A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was in Signal Hill at Hilltop Park- north side trails- on October 8.

A PALM WARBLER was on Santa Catalina Island (Two Harbors area) on October 11.

A PAINTED REDSTART was reported in Brentwood on October 11.

A SUMMER TANAGER was at San Dune Park in Manhattan Beach on October 8.

A DICKCISSEL was in Gardena on October 7.
