This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for October 20, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued on the north side of the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through October 18.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through October 16, often at the adjacent Ballona Salt Pan.

Two RED-BILLED TROPICBIRDS were near San Clemente Island on October 13.

A MANX SHEARWATER was above Redondo Canyon west of Redondo Beach from October 12-15.

A NAZCA BOOBY was at Tanner Bank west of San Clemente Island on October 13.

At least one ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in Monrovia through October 18.

A NORTHERN “YELLOW-SHAFTED” FLICKER was in the east Antelope Valley on October 18.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were along the Los Angeles River at Willow Street through October 15, at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on October 13, at Colorado Lagoon on Long Beach through October 15, at El Dorado Park in Long Beach through October 15, along the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood from October 14-16, at American Gold Star Manor in Long Beach on October 15 and along Ballona Creek near the Centinela crossing on October 18.

A PACIFIC WREN was in San Antonio Canyon along the Barrett-Stoddard Truck Trail on October 13.

A GRAY CATBIRD was in the east Antelope Valley on October 20.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in Reseda from October 19-20.

GREEN-TAILED TOWHEES were in the Old Zoo area at Griffith Park on October 13, at St. Andrews Abbey on October 14 and along the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through October 13.

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through October 14, near Monte Verde Park at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through October 18 and at Creek Park in La Mirada (above Imperial Highway) on October 20.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on October 16.

The PROTHONOTARY WARBLER at Silve Lake Recreation Park continued through October 14.  Hours of access vary, so check their website.  Exact location on Google Maps 34.0923, -118.2657

A CAPE MAY WARBLER was at the South Coast Botanic Garden from October 14-16.  Google Maps 33.7819, -118.3446

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued at Bond Park in Atwater Village through October 18.

A PALM WARBLER was at Madrona Marsh in Torrance on October 19.

A PAINTED REDSTART was in Brentwood through October 14.  Another PAINTED REDSTART was

at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach from October 13-14.

A SUMMER TANAGER was at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library in Log Angeles on October 19.
