This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 4.
WHITE-WINGED DOVES were at Malibu Lagoon on August 28, at Bluff Park in Long Beach on August 31 and along the Los Angeles River at Willow Street on September 1. Two more were at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on September 2.
Two BLACK SWIFTS were over Blue Ridge Road near Big Pines on August 28.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER continued at Royal Palms Beach in San Pedro through August 26 and another was at Dockweiler State Beach on September 2.
A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was along lower Ballona Creek from September 1-4. It has been in the UCLA boat ramp area (upstream from Pacific Ave.) and also upstream several hundred yards from that location.
A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was along Ballona Creek between the Centinela and Inglewood crossings from August 31-September 3.
A RED PHALAROPE was along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 134 Freeway from August 29-31.
Two NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued along the lower Los Angeles River in Long Beach through September 2. They have been seen below the Willow Street crossing.
Another NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued on the island at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve through August 29.
A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh through August 30.
Two more YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach through August 31.
Three PURPLE MARTINS were along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 134 Freeway on August 31.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Hansen Dam on the east edge of the willow forest on September 3.
The BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER along the Los Angeles River in Glendale continued through September 3. It has been at the small green patch on the south side of Los Feliz Blvd.
The LUCY'S WARBLER at Creek Park in La Mirada continued through from August 29. It has been northeast of the first bridge south of Imperial Highway.
Two SUMMER TANAGERS continued at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley through September 1. Another was in Big Dalton Canyon above Glendora on August 28.
