This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for November 12.

A SURF SCOTER was on Duckbill Lake at the Piute Ponds (permission required) on Edwards AFB on November 9.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was off Playa del Rey Beach on November 7.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through November 9.  It is most often seen near the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge.

Up to fourteen MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were in the Antelope Valley on November 7 at the A&G Sod Farm.  The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N.  This is private property; bird from the road only.

Two STILT SANDPIPERS continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for entry) through November 6.

A PACIFIC LOON was on Lake Palmdale (no public access) on November 7.

An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON continued below the Willow Street crossing of the Los Angeles River in Long Beach through November 9.  A CATTLE EGRET also continued in the area, most recently near PCH, through November 9.   

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued at the Ballona Creek mouth through November 9.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was in Sierra Madre (near Barranca and Sierra Madre Ave.) on November 12.

Up to three TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were seen at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach through November 9.  A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was on the east side of the lagoon on November 6.

Another TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Entradero Park in Torrance through November 9.

A late WILLOW FLYCATCHER was in Zuma Canyon on November 6.

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through November 9.  It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern park of the park down into the river channel.

The japonicus type AMERICAN PIPIT continued at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale through November 11.

Both a DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO and a DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued by the east end of the north shore of Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through November 9.

Another DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was at Grassy Hollow Picnic Area in the San Gabriel Mountains on November 7.

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were along the Toyon Trail in Griffith Park, at Woodley Creek in the Sepulveda Basin on November 6, at St. Andrew’s Priory near Valyermo on November 7, at Clear Creek Station in the San Gabriel Mountains on November 8 and in Glendora from November 9-12.

At the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood, a continuing GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE seen through November 7.

A male ORCHARD ORIOLE was at Satellite Park in Cerritos on November 9.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through November 9.  A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was there on November 5.

Other BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS continued along the Los Angeles River north of Glendale Ave. through November 7 and at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through November 8.

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway through November 11.  The bird was in trees in the river channel near the middle of the riparian strip.

A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER continued at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City through November 8.  It has been southwest of the playground area on the west side of the lake.

PALM WARBLERS were near the south end of Woodley Creek in the Sepulveda Basin from November 6-7, along San Francisquito Creek Trail in Santa Clarita on November 6 and at Cabrillo Beach Park in San Pedro through November 7.

The PAINTED REDSTART continued at Inglewood Park Cemetery through November 11.  It stays in the lone oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

SUMMER TANAGERS continued at Legg Lake in South El Monte through November 6 between the middle and north lake, at Wardlow Park in Long Beach also through November 6 and at the Village Green Condominiums in Los Angeles through November 7.

A PAINTED BUNTING was at a residence in Manhattan Beach from November 5-7.
