This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 17.

A “EURASIAN” GREEN-WINGED TEAL continued along the San Gabriel River in Pico Rivera, now well below the Washington Blvd. crossing through December 12.

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through December 16. It is most often seen near the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge, but it moves around the area.

At least seventeen MOUNTAIN PLOVERS continued in the Antelope Valley through December 12 at the A&G Sod Farm. The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N. This is private property. Please bird from the road only.

SOLITARY SANDPIPERS continued on the main lake at Hansen Dam through December 12 and along the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin (below Burbank Blvd.) through December 12.

The LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 16. It is often near Sailboat Cove.

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through December 13.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on December 11.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued at El Dorado Park in Long Beach (east of the pond) through December 10, at Entradero Park in Torrance through December 15 and along the Los Angeles River between Willow Street and 7th Street through December 10.

A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was at Alondra Park Reservoir on December 12.

A DUSKY FLYCATCHER continued on the west side of the channel that divides the two lakes at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia through December 12.

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through December 15. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern park of the park down into the river channel. A BRANT was in the river channel near here on December 12.

A CASSIN’S VIREO was east of the Mines Ave. entrance to the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera on December 12.

The japonicus type AMERICAN PIPIT at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale continued through December 13.

A DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO continued north of the lower parking area at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena through December 11.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW continued at La Crescenta Park through December 11. It has been near the hillside southwest of the maintenance yard (south side of the drainage channel).

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS continued at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach through December 15 (by the southwest corner of the school grounds), at the north end of Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through December 13 and along the Los Angeles River north of the Glendale / Hyperion crossing in Glendale, at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through December 15.

A NASHVILLE WARBLER was north of the Rose Garden at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino on December 16.

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway through December 15. The bird has been in the riparian in the river channel and also in trees on the north side of the river berm.

Two AMERICAN REDSTARTS were confirmed along Haskell Creek in the Sepulveda Basin December 15. They have been present for a couple of weeks and range along Haskell Creek between Burbank Blvd. and the Los Angeles River.

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued at Wardlow Park in Long Beach through December 11 north of the community building.

The PAINTED REDSTART at Inglewood Park Cemetery continued through December 13. It stays in the lone large oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

A SUMMER TANAGER was at Averill Park in San Pedro on December 11.
