This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for December 10.

 

A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and two LONG-TAILED DUCKS were off Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo on December 8.

 

The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through December 4. It is most often seen near the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave. bridge, but it moves around the area.

 

Up to two dozen MOUNTAIN PLOVERS continued in the Antelope Valley through December 8 at the A&G Sod Farm. The location is at 50th Street East and Avenue N. This is private property.  Please bird from the road only.

 

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER continued on the main lake at Hansen Dam through December 3.

 

The LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 10.

 

Two SCRIPPS’S MURRELETS and a LAYSAN ALBATROSS were 8-10 miles off the Palos Verdes Peninsula on December 7.

 

Two YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at the Ballona Creek jetties and breakwater on December 7.

 

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK continued in Monrovia through December 6 in the general area near Grand Ave. Park.

 

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (permission required for entry) through December 7.

 

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS continued at El Dorado Park in Long Beach (east of the pond) through December 8 and at Entradero Park in Torrance through December 7.

 

A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was in the southeast corner of Mountain View Cemetery in Pasadena on December 5.

 

A DUSKY FLYCATCHER was in Zuma Canyon on December 4.

 

Another DUSKY FLYCATCHER was on the west side of the channel that divides the two lakes at Peck Road Water Conservation Park in Arcadia from December 4-5.  A NASHVILLE WARBLER was at the north end of Peck WCP also from December 4-5.

 

A PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER continued at Wardlow Park in Long Beach through December 3 and another was in the Nature Center area at El Dorado Park in Long Beach on December 8.

 

The EASTERN PHOEBE at the Bette Davis Picnic Area in Glendale continued through December 10. It stays just below the Riverside Drive bridge and ranges from the southern park of the park down into the river channel.

 

The japonicus type AMERICAN PIPIT at the Ferraro Soccer Fields in Glendale continued through December 10.

 

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Warner Center Park on December 9.

 

A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through December 9 in the Sailboat Cove area.  A DARK-EYED “GRAY-HEADED” JUNCO did likewise near the north shore play area also through December 9.

 

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was in Rolling Hills on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on December 4,

 

The GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE (inside Monte Verde Park) and BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued at the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood through December 8.

 

 

Other BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS continued at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach through December 6 and at Madrona Marsh in Torrance through December 7.

 

A NASHVILLE WARBLER was in Lomita on December 8.

 

An AMERICAN REDSTART continued along the Los Angeles River in Glendale below the 5 Freeway through December 10. The bird has been in the riparian in the river channel and also in trees on the north side of the river berm.

 

Another AMERICAN REDSTART (possibly two birds) continued along Haskell Creek in the Sepulveda Basin through December 3.  This bird ranges along Haskell Creek between Burbank Blvd. and the Los Angeles River.

 

A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued at Wardlow Park in Long Beach through December 7 on the east side of the park southeast of the playground. A male SUMMER TANAGER continued at the park also through December 7.

 

The PAINTED REDSTART at Inglewood Park Cemetery continued through December 7. It stays in the lone large oak tree in the Pinecrest section.

 

A SUMMER TANAGER was in Rustic Canyon in Pacific Palisades on December 6.

 

A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK continued at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library in Los Angeles through December 6.  Another was in Pasadena from December 8-10.
