Rare Bird Alert - June 18, 2021

Yellow-billed Cuckoo | Black Swift | Pomarine Jaeger | Neotropic Cormorant | MASKED BOOBY | Yellow-crowned Night-Heron | Red-eyed Vireo | Summer Tanager


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for June 18.

A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen briefly in Playa del Rey on June 16.

BLACK SWIFTS were seen at Palmer Canyon north of Claremont on June 12 and 14 and over Glendora on June 14.

A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale through June 11.

Two more NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS were in the Nature Center area at El Dorado Park in Long Beach from June 14-15 and two were along the lower Los Angeles River below Willow Street from June 14-15.

A MASKED BOOBY was seen offshore in the Catalina Channel on June 13.  A POMARINE JAEGER was also seen in the area.

A YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach through June 14.

Another YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continued near the Ballona Creek mouth by the Pacific Ave. bridge through June 15.

A RED-EYED VIREO was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) on June 13.

At the Piute Ponds, SUMMER TANAGER was present from June 13-15.  Another was at by the Valyermo Post Office on June 16.

Two more SUMMER TANAGERS were at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley on June 17.
