This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for September 10.
A few SPOTTED DOVES persist near downtown Los Angeles, with one or two being seen from September 4-7 by the Mt. Rose Baptist Church near Compton Ave. and 89th Street.
A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery west of downtown Los Angeles on September 9.
The PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER continued along lower Ballona Creek through September 9. It is often by the UCLA boat ramp upstream from the Pacific Ave bridge.
A STILT SANDPIPER was on the Los Angeles River above Willow Street in Long Beach on September 9.
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at Malibu Lagoon on September 4 and at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (at Friends Pond) on September 5.
A SABINE'S GULL was at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB from September 3-9 mostly at Thoreau Pond. A permit is required for access to this area.
Another SABINE'S GULL was along the lower Los Angeles River by Anaheim Street on September 5.
COMMON TERNS were along the lower Los Angeles River at Willow Street on September 4, at Malibu Lagoon (two birds) on September 8 and at Piute Ponds on September 9.
A NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued along the lower Los Angeles River around the island just below Willow Street through September 4. Another NEOTROPIC CORMORANT continued at the lake at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys through September 8 and one was on the lake at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on September 4.
At least one YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at the Cabrillo Salt Marsh (Salinas de San Pedro) through September 7, three were at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach through September 3, and one was in the Ballona area through September 8.
A ZONE-TAILED HAWK flew over Monrovia on September 6.
An EASTERN KINGBIRD was on San Clemente Island on September 1.
PURPLE MARTINS included three at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on September 5 and one at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on September 9.
A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was in Rolling Hills on the Palos Verdes Peninsula on September 2.
A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH continued at Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB through September 4 with two present on that date.
The LUCY'S WARBLER at Silver Lake Meadows continued through September 9 near the central part of the meadow area closer the west side.
Another LUCY'S WARBLER was at Heartwell Park in Long Beach on September 5.
A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was at the Piute Ponds from September 3-7 along Avenue C near the dip.
A MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve on September 6 near the southern tip of the wildlife lake.
SUMMER TANAGERS were at St. Andrew's Priory near Valyermo on September 4 and at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach (northeast of the museum) on September 9.
PAINTED BUNTINGS were on San Clemente Island from September 2-5 and at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh (by the south pond) on September 7.
