This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for July 9.
Up to five BLACK SWIFTS were reported above Claremont Wilderness Park through July 8. Late afternoon is the time to look for these birds, often seen along Cobal Canyon Motorway or above the Padua Theater.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was at Golden Shore Marine Reserve in Long Beach on July 5.
Two NEOTROPIC CORMORANTS continued along the lower Los Angeles River around the island just below Willow Street through July 8. Others were at Leg Lake in South El Monte on July 2, and at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve on July 8. Six were at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on July 7. Another was at El Dorado Park in Long Beach at the Duck Pond south of Willow Street on July 9.
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were at Sims Bio Pond in Long Beach on July 5 and along Appian Way at Alamitos Bay on June 30.
An EASTERN KINGBIRD was at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on July 9 near the Ranger Station.
A SUMMER TANAGER continued at Pearblossom Park in the south Antelope Valley through July 4. Another continued at the Valyermo Post Office through July 6 and one was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required for entry) on July 8.
