This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for May 25, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE in the Antelope Valley continued at Apollo Park through May 25.

A CACKLING GOOSE was at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh on May 21.

A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB (letter of permission required) on May 21.

Two CRAVERI’S MURRELETS and two ANCIENT MURRELETS were observed off the Palos Verdes Peninsula on May 21.

COMMON LOONS were at the Hollywood Reservoir from May 18-25 and at Frank R. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas on May 23.

Up to four YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey through May 25.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was in San Pedro just west of Cabrillo Beach on May 20.

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on May 22.

A GRAY CATBIRD was at the Piute Ponds on May 21 by the northeast corner of Big Piute.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was on San Clemente Island on May 17.

A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was on San Clemente Island on May 19.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was in Hacienda Heights on May 19.

NORTHERN PARULAS turned up on San Clemente Island on May 18, at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on May 20, at Creek Park in La Mirada on May 20, along the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail in Lakewood on May 20, at the William Andrews Clark Library in Los Angeles on May 25 and near the Ranger Station at Hansen Dam (off the Dronfield entrance) on May 25.

SUMMER TANAGERS were on San Clemente Island on May 17 and 21, at Hopkins Wilderness Park in Redondo Beach on May 22, at the Piute Ponds on Edwards AFB on May 21, in Signal Hill on May 20, at the Los Angeles Zoo on May 22 and at the north end of Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach from May 23-25. 

ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS were on San Clemente Island on May 20 and in Area 2 of El Dorado Park by the archery fence on May 25.

A PAINTED BUNTING was on San Clemente Island from May 18-20 and an INDIGO BUNTING was there from May 19-22.
