Rare Bird Alert - July 21, 2023

BIRDS MENTIONED…

TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE | Yellow-billed Cuckoo | Black Swift | Red-footed Booby | Yellow-crowned Night-Heron | Cedar Waxwing | Summer Tanager | Indigo Bunting


This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for July 21, 2023.

The TUNDRA BEAN-GOOSE continued at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area in Willowbrook through July 20.

A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was at Sunset Peak Saddle north of Claremont on July 15.

At least two BLACK SWIFTS continued to be reported near Claremont Wilderness Park along Cobal Canyon Road (by the bench) through July 17.  Late afternoon is the best time to look for them here.

A RED-FOOTED BOOBY was offshore west of Redondo Beach on July 15.

YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS continued at Alamitos Bay through July 20 and along the San Gabriel River near the Pacific Coast Highway crossing through July 18 this past week.

A CEDAR WAXWING and a SUMMER TANAGER were in Zuma Canyon along Bonsall Drive on July 15.

An INDIGO BUNTING was along the lower Los Angeles River north of Cressa Park (just above the Pacific Coast Highway) in Long Beach from July 15-17.
